Westminster Police investigating fatal Md 31 car accident

Yesterday, an elderly Westminster woman died from injuries suffered in a fatal Md 31 car accident involving three vehicles near Uniontown Road.

The woman was taken to Carroll Hospital Center with serious injuries. She later succumbed to her injuries after being transferred to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

Fatal Md 31 car accident may have been caused by distracted driving

Preliminary investigation showed that a 2002 Saturn was traveling north on Md. 31, but failed to stop for standing traffic.  The vehicle then collided with a 2014 Toyota Corolla.

The Saturn deflected off the Toyota, crossing the center line and striking the elderly woman’s 2016 Dodge head-on in the southbound lanes of Md. 31.

All drivers were injured in the accident.  Md. 31 was closed near the intersection with Uniontown Road.

No charges have been filed at this time and the investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Crash investigators from the Maryland State Police are assisting Westminster Police. Once the investigation has been completed, all of the evidence will be presented to the State’s Attorney Office for Carroll County. A decision will be made relating to any charges in this crash.
