Carroll County DUI Lawyer Attends Advanced DUI Defense Seminar

Yesterday, Carroll County DUI Lawyer Ross W. Albers attended the Maryland Criminal Defense Attorneys’ Association’s 13th Annual Advanced DUI Defense Seminar at the BWI Airport Marriott Hotel.

The DUI Defense Seminar was attended by many of the top DUI Attorneys in private practice in Maryland.  Additionally, many lawyers from the Office of the Public Defender were in attendance.

The seminar began with introductory remarks from Leonard R. Stamm.

Next, Suzanne Perry gave a technical presentation on why every breath test is bad in Maryland. Particularly interesting was the discussion on the deficiencies of Maryland’s breath test certification.

Ms. Perry’s lecture was followed by Bob LaPier.  Mr. Lapier discussed the new 2015 Standard Field Sobriety Tests Manual and the differences between prior manuals.

Next, George Bianci gave a lighthearted lecture on cannabis and cars. With the legalization of marijuana in many States, driving while “high” will become more prevalent.

Another great lecture was then lead by Erin H. Gerstenzang.  She presented on the ethical pitfalls of social media for attorneys.

Near the end of the day, Leonard R. Stamm discussed the recent Supreme Court cases dealing with the breath tests.  These cases have the potential to change the landscape of DUI litigation throughout the country.

Finally, the day ended with a lecture by Gil Cochran on mitigation.  Whether you are taking your case to trial or not, you must have good mitigation.  Mitigation in DUI cases means alcohol education, or treatment.
