Carroll County investigating fatal vehicle collision on Rt 31
On Tuesday, October 17, 2017, four people were killed in a two-vehicle crash on Md. 31.
Authorities confirmed there were two vehicles involved and four fatalities. One vehicle may have been traveling approximately 100 mph when the collision occurred.
A Sheriff Deputy en route to an unrelated call in New Windsor, observed a vehicle Eastbound on Rt 31 in the area of Medford Road that appeared to be travelling at a high rate of speed. This was confirmed by the vehicle’s Radar unit, which showed the vehicle travelling in excess of 100 miles per hour. The Deputy turned around and attempted to catch up to the suspect vehicle.
As the Deputy approached the area of Rt 31 and Old New Windsor Pike, he observed that an major motor vehicle collision had just occurred, with the suspect vehicle fully engulfed in flames, and another vehicle off of the roadway into a ditch.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect vehicle, travelling Eastbound, passed another vehicle travelling Eastbound, and lost control, striking a gray Infinity with two occupants that had been travelling West towards New Windsor. This vehicle suffered only minor damage, and no injuries were reported.
The suspect vehicle, however, lost control and struck another vehicle head on. This vehicle, a Mercury Cougar, was occupied by three individuals. Both the suspect, and all three occupants of the Mercury, were pronounced deceased at the scene.
