Three Estate Documents Everyone Needs

There are three documents that everyone needs. Each one has a specific purpose and goal in mind. They are the Will, Advanced Medical Directive, and Power of Attorney.

The Will

The Will’s main objective is to govern the disposition of your assets after you have died. But it can control much more than that. There is virtually no limit to what you can put in a Will. You can name a guardian, a personal representative, you can even name the real estate agent you want to sell your home.

The Advance Medical Directive

Advanced Medical Directives appoint agents to make medical decisions for you while you cannot make them yourself. These situations can include anything you want. The most common example is a coma.

The Power of Attorney

The third is the Power of Attorney. This appoints an agent to handle your assets if you cannot handle them yourself. These include times that are very similar to those under an Advanced Medical Directive. Who would file your taxes for you? Who would handle the sale of your house? Who would handle the small business that you have? All these questions can be answered in this document.
