Turnaround Time for Chiropractic Discharge Report
This past weekend Personal Injury Attorney Ross Albers spoke at the Maryland Chiropractic Association’s Spring Forum.
One question that was asked was: “What is a reasonable turnaround time for a chiropractor to provide an attorney with a discharge report?”
The panel agreed that two weeks was a reasonable turnaround time.
Importance of Discharge Report from Medical Treatment
A discharge report is the final documentation of your injury after seeing a chiropractor.
Hopefully, it reports that you have returned to normal life or reached maximum medical improvement after your accident.
An attorney needs this report so they can finalize your demand letter to the insurance company. Without, your claim cannot move forward.
Chiropractors treat a lot of patients and have to take detailed notes so that they can remember your condition when they see you next. This is especially important for a personal injury case because the chiropractor’s notes are sometimes the only evidence of your treatment.
You shouldn’t have to wait more than two weeks for your chiropractor to provide the attorney with the discharge report. Any longer is only delaying your case from moving forward.
Chiropractors that use digital records might be able to create their report faster than those that do handwritten notes. Also, attorneys prefer digital records because they are easier for them and the adjusters to read. Plus, digital records can be securely sent via portals rather than mailed to your attorney.
