Don’t wait to consult with a DUI Attorney
Many times potential clients wait several months after their DUI arrest to consult with an attorney. The reason for waiting was because they didn’t want to face the facts that they had been arrested. It was easier to ignore the situation and pretend like it didn’t happen than to face the facts.
This is a mistake.
Why you shouldn’t wait to consult an attorney
The reason seems obvious why you shouldn’t wait to consult with and hire an attorney after a DUI arrest. Other than protecting your rights, preparing a defense and organizing mitigation, DUI cases are unique because the MVA also takes action after a drunk driving arrest.
During a DUI arrest, you will be asked to take a breathalyzer test. After you take the test, the police officer will confiscate your driver’s license and issue you a temporary license that is valid for 45 days.
Depending on the results, the MVA will suspend your driver’s license.
- If you blow under a 0.15, then the MVA will suspend your license for 180 days.
- If you blow over a 0.15, then the MVA will also suspend your license for 180 days.
- If you refuse the breathalyzer test, then the MVA will suspend your license for 270 days.
If you do nothing, then on the 46th day after your arrest, your license will be submitted. Many people come to our office and don’t realize that their license is suspended.
If you consult with an attorney immediately, then the attorney can help you take the necessary steps to save your driver’s license.
