Fatal Car Accidents Insurance Limits
Recently, a person dead in Carroll County following a five car collision on Md. 97 between Main Street and Poole Road in Westminster, Maryland.
Fatal car accidents are tragic and can be an insurance nightmare, too.
Beware if the at fault driver’s insurance policy limits are exhausted
This accident appears to be the fault of the deceased driver. According to the release, the driver crossed into the southbound lanes around the intersection of Poole Road, striking another vehicle that was heading south. The driver then struck three other vehicles before swerving into a ditch.
The state police had MD. 97 closed from Main Street to Poole Road for two and a half hours while investigating the crash.
For those parties involved in the accident, one issue that might arise is the insurance policy limits for the at fault driver.
Insurance policies cover individuals per occurrence, or accident.
If an individual has $30,000/$60,000 insurance policy, then each person injured by the at fault driver will be compensated up to $30,000 for their injures. However, once the policy pays a total of $60,000, the at fault driver no longer has insurance to cover the damages.
This is why it is important that you carry enough insurance to cover you in the event that you are involved in a multi-vehicle collision. You should consult with a local insurance agent to make sure you and your family are properly covered by your automobile insurance.
